Part-Time Library Assistant

Employment Type: Part Time    Pay Type: Hourly         Pay Rate: $14 per hour

Time Commitment: 4 days/week, 9am to 4pm, 28hrs total

Paid Vacation: Yes, 1 week annually

Benefits: Health Benefits Not Provided

Answers to: The Executive Director


Responsibilities to include:


Library and Research

  • Maintain a presence at the front desk during business hours when patrons are in the library and museum

  • Monitor the use of resources by patrons and volunteers to ensure they are handled properly and returned to the appropriate location at the end of the day

  • Assist on-site researchers with genealogy queries using library and online resources

  • Supervise and interact with a team of volunteers and interns

  • Create reports for patrons who submit research requests


General

  • Provide input and new ideas to help the library function more effectively

  • Maintain visitation records and track library usage

  • Input retail transactions for the museum gift shop, event tickets, memberships, and donations


Experience:

  • Ability to work well independently and as part of a team

  • Capacity to communicate with the public using phone, mail, email, and other digital platforms


Ideal Candidate:

  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and constantly recalibrate based on daily library needs and traffic

  • Strong organizational, written, and verbal communication skills with an attention to detail

  • Experience in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Word and Excel

  • Interest in utilizing opportunities for professional development

  • Committed to helping a small museum and research library grow to the next level

  • Demonstrates a firm grasp of technology and innovates new ways to serve customers

  • Experienced in working with archival material and records

  •  Understands the importance of preserving local history and making it available to the public
