Join the Historical and Genealogical Society for the Northern Appalachian Folk Festival as we provide Living History and Historical Activities as part of the Festival.

About the event

HGSIC is pleased to be partnering with NAFF in the celebration of our country and region's history, art, and culture.  

The society will be offering tours of the Clark House every 30 minutes from 11:00AM-5:00PM with no tour at 1:00PM, tours will resume at 1:30PM; space for the tours are limited and will be offered on a first-come-first serve basis.  During the tours guests will learn about Silas Clark and his family, life in the Victorian Era, and hear a few time period pieces on the parlor piano.  Space on the tours are limited and will be offered on a first-come-first-serve basis.  All tours will begin at the front door of the Clark House, a volunteer will be stationed there to assist you.

At 12:00, join us in the museum for a workshop presented by Susan Ferrandiz titled "The Life and Death of Fannie Sellers."  Fannie was a labor organizer for the United Mine Workers of America, who was brutally murdered in 1919 in Pittsburgh by thugs affiliated with the coal and steel interests.

At 2:00, join us in the museum for a workshop presented by Kim and Reggie Harris on the Underground Railroad. 

Located on the Clark House lawn and along South 6th Street will be the Military Heritage Interactive Display, where guests will be able to interact with Re-enactors from the Civil War through the Vietnam War. 

Exhibitors will also be positioned along South 6th Street from 11:00 to 5:00 with the following displays: Farm Tools, 1930 Model A Ford Pickup Truck with Maytag Advertising, Milk Delivery, Quilting, Lumbering, Games and Toys, Wood Turning, Cabin Building, and Wool Production.

Be sure to tour the museum and view exhibits related to the county and region's rich history.  The military museum honors the legacy of those who served from Indiana County.  On exhibit now through the end of the year is "School Days: When We Were a Couple of Kids."  Explore the rich history of Indiana County's sevel public school districts and their impact on the community. The gift shop will be open to find that perfect gift, and our fundraising committee will be on hand with your chance at a discount in our gift shop (a $5.00 minimum purchase or donation is required for your chance to spin the wheel).  

The Helman Library will be closed for research on Saturday September 7, 2024 during the festival.  If you wish to do research we ask that you please visit us during our normal business hours.
